About Me
My name is Clarice Chan. I’m a “program manager” but I’m really a creative strategist, maker, adventurer, thrill seeker, humanitarian, and storyteller. My mission is to make the world a better place through telling stories and building experiences.
People-Focused & Passion for Diversity
Although I was born in a small town in Wisconsin, I grew up in the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong. It was Hong Kong where I developed a sense of global responsibility, building community, and scalable ambition. I attended an incredibly diverse international high school, where I got to grow alongside hundreds of students from all over the world. In hindsight, this experience was a primer for my heightened passion in strengthening diversity and inclusion, especially in today’s underrepresented tech industry.
Work Approach
Professionally, I don’t have a conventional background as a Program Manager. As an “engineer,” I didn’t study computer science. I started out in the creative arts studying Design and Film at UCLA. However, through an evolution of internships (Disney, Adobe, GOOD Magazine, NASA), I found myself shifting away from visual arts and gravitating more towards high tech. As I mention in my philosophy, I don’t focus so much on the medium, but rather the purpose and the problem. I’m passionate about social progress, and I believe that technology holds the greatest potential to be a change agent in our future, so I decided to become a social technologist.
Past, Present, Future
For the past 2 years, I was on a “traditional” product team at Microsoft, driving Cortana integration in Microsoft Edge. Today however, I’m spearheading a new initiative and driving social good for Windows. I believe that companies have a great responsibility to harness the power of technology to create progress and ensure a bright future. My goal is to leverage Microsoft’s platform and ecosystem to tackle high impact problems with engineering-led solutions. Ultimately, I believe that “social good” can, and should, be a part of the core business model. Harnessed strategically, social good can drive business value while delivering high quality emotionally-relevant user experiences.
Join me in engineering a brighter future.
